Summer of Discontent. The Summer of Discontent was our attempt to fill a massive void. There was nothing big happening in Sheffield over the summer. Of course there were still some amazing independent events going on, club nights and gigs. But these were few and far between. Other cities were having festivals, street parties, mega events. The best we had were a few crappy family fun days with face painting for the kiddies and rubbish versions of fare ground rides. So we tried to do something about it. Put on an anti-festival. We did a series of posters, one a week. The idea was to link up all the little things into something bigger, and to make more things happen, to inspire people to do their own clubnights and parties to fill the void. Each week, one of Sheffield's talented designers did the poster. They're all brilliant. You can see them all by clicking here. The Summer of Discontent began with a party on Tom's roof terrace where someone fell out of a window and broke their hip. It went on in that vein, really. The whole thing was a disaster. But a fun disaster. Hopefully next year, there'll be something better happening. Sheffield is the most important sub-cultural city in the country. If we can't get together to celebrate the music and the creativity that's coming out of this city, then we're basically fucked. If anyone wants a frowny, just ask us. We have quite a lot left to give away. |
