Venice

Sheffield represented Britain at the 2006 Venice Biennale for Architecture. You might think, why would an ugly 70's city represent this country? But if you ask that question, you've obviously never been outside of the M25.

The point was: Sheffield is a city that people love, with a world wide identity, despite its architecture, rather than because of it. About what a place, a city, means to people, how it's more than just the physical thing you can touch or walk around.

Jeremy Till put together a wicked team of people to make the show happen. It included Trish, Ruth and Jim from Encounters, Ian Anderson from Designers Republic, Martyn Ware from Heaven 17 (COOL), Tim Etchells and Hugo Glendinning. What they created was amazing. It was fantastic to see Sheffield recreated on an international stage.

We wrote something for their brochure. It's quite long, but it sums up Sheffield well, we think. Click here.
